A house shaped by family memory and the idea of bringing people together
When you arrive at House Jelka, you might notice the name “Nina” in the metal gate. There is a story behind it.
My mother, Jelka, built this house and named it after her grandmother Nina — the person who gave her love and a sense of belonging during a difficult childhood. Years later, I was given the same name.
After my mother passed away, I took over the house. Letting it stand empty never felt right. She always imagined it as a place that brings people together. Today, that idea lives on in a different way — through friends, chosen family, and guests from all over the world.
I grew up in Germany, and for a long time Croatia was simply a place for holidays. Only later did I reconnect with my roots — and fall in love not only with the island itself, but with its people, its rhythm, and its way of life.
House Jelka is meant to feel like a home away from home. A place where modern comfort meets local character — with details shaped by Brač, from olive wood to stone, and small touches that connect you to the island all around you.
Welcome to House Jelka.
House Jelka is meant to be lived in. For slow mornings, shared dinners, another glass of wine when no one is in a hurry, and that rare feeling of having nowhere else to be. To me, it always mattered that the house would feel warm, easy and quietly special — full of character, comfort and the kind of atmosphere that lingers long after a stay.
